A Detroit Police officer was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run accident near Puritan and Monica, reports say.
That officer was taken to the hospital where he died from his injures. Other circumstances of the incident remain unclear at this time, Williams said. WXYZ reports a van came through the intersection of Puritan and Monica, hitting the police cruiser, the officer and another auto. “He was assigned to the 12th precinct the last three years where he was working patrol”, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told Fox 2. He was struck Friday night by a cargo-style van moving at high speed.
The suspect has been identified as Steven Patrick Guzina of Lincoln Park was taken into custody shortly after 3:30 a.m. according to Detroit police.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out today to the family of Ofc”.
Police say the officer was responding to assist with a traffic investigation that resulted in an arrest.
