Other than Michael Bloomberg, who was previously mayor of NY, numerous other business leaders on the list were surprising in that they had never run for political office, such as Apple CEO Tim Cook, General Motors CEO Mary Barra, as well as Bill and Melinda Gates.
The list appeared in a batch of new emails revealed by WikiLeaks on Tuesday obtained illegally from the inbox of Clinton campaign manager John Podesta.
The names come from the hacked email account of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, whose emails have been posted on the website Wikileaks. “I am feeling like it’s possible to get back to the longer term again”, Podesta said.
Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate, is defending the campaign’s respect for different religions after a leaked email by a Clinton aide suggested that Catholicism is more “socially acceptable” for conservatives than evangelism.
“The Justice Department was clearly telling the Clinton campaign everything they were doing in an email litigation case before the judge”.
The so-called list of “rough food groups” of potential running mates also included Obama administration Cabinet members Julian Castro, of Housing and Urban Development, and Labor Secretary Tom Perez, and former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Sen.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., was also under consideration among other elected officials. Michael Bennet of Colorado.
African-Americans who made the list included Sen.
Another group of names consists of black male politicians-former Gov. Deval Patrick of MA, former attorney general Eric Holder and Sen.
GM CEO Mary Barra, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Xerox CEO Ursula Burns, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, philanthropist Melinda Gates, Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent, Rockefeller Foundation President Judith Rodin and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz – wealthy tech and business leaders. In an interview with ABC’s “This Week”, Kaine said the two discussed their faith at length before Clinton asked Kaine to join her on the Democratic ticket.
