Taliban attacks Afghan military base in Mazar-i-Sharif, more than 50 killed

Kabul, April 21: At least 50 people have been reportedly killed in a militant attack by insurgent outfit Taliban against the Afghan Army. The militant strike was carried out in Mazar-i-Sharif, at the headquarters of Afghan National Army corps. The city also houses the Indian consulate. As per reports, the attack is currently underway. The retaliatory operation has been initiated to neutralise the Taliban militants who sneaked into the Army headquarters. While speaking to Reuters, a US military spokesperson confirmed the death of “more than 50 people”. Other independent sources claim death toll has peaked to 61.
