'Fear The Walking Dead' Gets A New Web Series Called 'Passage' Which Will Air During 'The Walking Dead'

After the success of Flight 462, AMC has announced another web series that will air during Season 7 of The Walking Dead. This new series, Passage, will complement events occurring in Fear the Walking Dead. Spoiler alert: This articles discusses Season 2 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution of you wish to avoid spoilers. Flight 462 was a web series that was designed to not only complement Fear the Walking Dead, but to act as a venue to introduce a brand new character in Season 2 of Fear. This complementary series received two Emmy nominations and clocked more than 4.6 million video streams according to Entertainment Weekly. [Image by AMC] Following in that success, AMC has announced the arrival of a new web series to complement Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead. This series is called Fear the Walking Dead: Passage and each episode will run for around one minute. Passage will run for 16 installments, the first being released before the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, but subsequent episodes will air during The Walking Dead and then become available online afterwards. According to the press release, the synopsis for Passage follows. “The second season of webisodes follows a fearsome survivor, Sierra (Kelsey Scott), who agrees to help an injured woman, Gabi (Mishel Prada), in exchange for an apocalyptic sanctuary. Over the course of their harrowing journey, the women go on to face many dangers and learn what they need to survive. “ You can view the 50-second first episode of Passage below. The clip is interesting because, if you remember back to the Season 2 finale of Fear the Walking Dead, Nick’s (Frank Dillane) group were heading towards a military base. While they were shot at before they had a chance to enter the facility, it is possible the first installment of Passages takes place inside the base Nick’s group were headed for. Another character, Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), was also pulled up by military at the Mexican border. So it is also conceivable that she could end up at the same military facility that Nick’s group was aiming for. Regardless of whether the military base in Episode 1 of Passage is the same as the one Nick was heading for or that Ofelia could end up at, fans of the show get a look inside the facility. [Image by AMC] Considering one person is wearing a hazmat suit, it can be assumed this is early days in the outbreak. It certainly seems like a hostile environment. A character is seen wearing a hazmat suit and brandishing a knife. As he travels across the base in search of a woman (who is, presumably, Gabi) trying to escape, he has to take out a couple of the infected. The woman hides behind a vehicle, visibly concerned. The question to be asked, though, is why the man would be hunting down the woman. In Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead, the notion of immunity from the infected was brought up. Could this woman possibly be immune for real this time? Only by tuning into subsequent episodes of Passage will reveal the truth. It is unclear if Passage will follow in Flight 462‘s footsteps and introduce a new character in Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead. Passage is produced by Dave Erickson, who is also the showrunner for Fear the Walking Dead. Andrew Bernstein is listed as director and producer. Passage is written by Lauren Signorino and Mike Zunic. Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, released the following statement about Passage. “We saw a tremendous response to last year’s Flight 462 so we are excited to again be expanding the world of Fear with another story of survival at the onset of the apocalypse. It’s great to be working with Dave Erickson and the Fear team on this new piece of original short-form content that will continue to engage fans in the series’ off-season.” What did you think of the first installment of Passage?
