While the studio had trouble landing much success outside of “Sleeping Dogs”, their games lineup was always interesting and diverse, and it’s a shame that they’ve been shuttered.
A reason for the studio’s closure hasn’t been provided, and an official announcement hasn’t been released either.
Founded back in 2007, the dev’s best known games included the aforementioned Sleeping Dogs and PlayStation exclusive kart racers, ModNation Racers and LittleBigPlanet Karting. United Front Games also helped develop Halo: The Master Chief Collection and the Xbox One version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
It’s not clear exactly why the shutdown is happening, but considering Smash + Grab was an early access title, it’s possible it just wasn’t bringing in enough money to keep the company afloat. The open world game was set in Hong Kong and follows an undercover cop trying to bring down the Triads.
“Sleeping Dogs” developer closes after 9 years in business. Publisher Square Enix still own the rights, so a Sleeping Dogs sequel could still happen, albeit with a different developer at the helm.
We wish everyone that was affected by this closure good luck in the future and hope to update you with more details regarding this decision as they become available.
