The upcoming video game has no ties to the 2006 original, Arkane Studios president and creative director Raphael Colantonio has insisted, and he gave some details on what fans can expect. “It is important to note that’s it’s not just shooting”.
There will certainly be more to share in the coming months on this re-imagining of the Prey IP, as the title is now slated for a 2017 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
That’s a little disappointing-Prey wasn’t a huge hit by any means, but I quite liked it-but also exciting, because it means the studio has free rein to do pretty much whatever it wants. Would it even be the previously canceled Prey 2? “It more like a hybrid game where there’s narratives which meet with action and meet with an RPG layer”.
Colantonio goes on to say that Prey, like all Arkane games, will allow players to make specific decisions that make their experiences unique. “So you have some weapons, but you have lots of other things too, including powers you can learn from the aliens themselves”.
Colantonio also elaborated that Prey is not a horror title, despite what we all may have garnered from the E3 presentation. Aside from weapons, players will also have different gadgets that can also be used for combat and other purposes. When we started the project I wanted to call him, or her, Morgan, the reason being you can choose at the beginning of the game if you want to play a female or male character. “The psychological thrill dimension is more around the theme of identity”.
