Barcelona Transfer News: Blaugrana Interested in Antoine Griezmann

While many high-profile players including Kylian Mbappe, Paulo Dybala, Ousmane Dembele and Angel Di Maria have all been mentioned as potential successors to the Brazilian star, Diario Sport now claim that Griezmann has emerged as Ernesto Valverde’s preferred option.

However, Griezmann is the preference given his experience in Spain.

The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but when Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld after a failed final appeal, Griezmann pledged his future to the Spanish giants, by penning down a new contract that increased his weekly salary, but the €100 million release clause remained the same.

SPORT360 VERDICT: Griezmann is no doubt the best possible replacement for Neymar available – except that he’s declared that he’s not actually available.

Manchester United looked set to sign the Frenchman this summer but, following Fifa’s decision to uphold Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, he put pen-to-paper on a new contract – and has an £85million buy-out clause.

However, if Barcelona are to be successful in what we believe would be protracted negotiations with Atletico Madrid, it could be at an enormous cost.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Neymar is on his way out of Barcelona..

Fortunately for them, they are also under no pressure to sell, unlike with Luis Suarez or Raheem Sterling previously.

Philippe Coutinho appeared a sure bet to arrive at the Nou Camp.

The Milan club have seen city rivals AC Milan go on a spending spree and are determined not to fall behind. “They want to stay at Atletico to continue paving the path that will help us continue growing as a club”.
