For the first time in 75 years, the Mars Candy company is breaking out a caramel filling M&M, except it won’t be making its grand debut until May 2017.
According to CNNMoney, the newest filling in the M&M range is caramel, with the new filling flavoured candies available to buy instore as early as May 2017. The company described them as having soft caramel centers enrobed in chocolate and coated in a crunchy candy shell.
One would wonder why it took so long for a caramel M&M to join the Mars portfolio, considering other brands include caramel-laden sweets such as Milky Way and Twix, but the engineering took a few years to develop. Others include crispy (pretzel), smooth (milk and chocolate) and nutty (peanut).
Part of the reason why a caramel center was the next obvious flavor for the company was because caramel is “trendy”, and popular among consumers. “It’s a $2.2 billion flavor segment and the fastest growing segment in food right now”.
Caramel lovers are about to have their mouth’s water when they read this news.
However, M&M’S Caramel Chocolate Candies are slightly larger than the standard M&M options.
Izzo also told the agency it’s still getting the manufacturing process ready – hence the monthslong wait. It plans to hire 70 employees to run the operation.
Mars, which spent a few years developing the new flavor, has called the caramel addition “one of the biggest launches in the brand’s history”, CNNMoney reports.
Caramel m&m’s won’t hit the market until may.
