Celebrating 20 years of ministry
in Turkey!
Johnny
and I took turns sleeping on the only thing that was in
our jail cell - a bench. We spent our time singing and
praying to Jesus, waiting to be set free. We had been
arrested for distributing New Testaments in Turkey,
a Muslim country. The police took our fingerprints, mug shots, and sent us back to our cell. We were interrogated over and over again.
That was many years ago. Now, over half a million
Turkish New Testaments have been distributed! Turkish
believers have been trained, and sent out to evangelize. Four New Testament book companies have been
started. We've been arrested and harassed over 40 times. We've done open air preaching and endured many threats. Our team has been beat up, spit
on, heckled, and even
deported.
Islamic seminaries began to order New
Testaments from us every year to give out to their
students.

We've done over 20 types of evangelism - open air
preaching, prayer outreaches, Prayer Hotlines,
festivals, counseling tables, door-to-door survey, and
many more types of evangelism.
Thousands of people have called in to the Prayer
Hotlines. People called in to say how they were healed,
their debts were canceled, they found jobs, and court cases were unexplainably dropped.
We gave out tens of thousands of New Testaments on the
streets. The newspapers took notice of what God
was doing and said, "No one is
saying stop them! They are gripping Turkey like an
octopus!" The former Prime Minister and his wife said,
"We are losing our religion. They are giving out New
Testaments on the streets."
Virtually every person who has become a believer in
Turkey, has done so by first reading some portion of the
Turkish New Testament.
Now, we are reaching out to the poor. A widow, Ayse, had
tears in her eyes saying, "Everyone has forgotten us,
but now you Christians are here!"
God is still at work in Turkey and through out the world and we give
Him all the praise and glory!
