WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Learning to Love Unconditionally
By
Kenneth Lewis
Don’t
forget! February 14th is Valentine Day. If you forget that special
love one in your life you maybe telling your dog to roll over!
What
is love? For some it’s score zero in tennis, for others it’s an attraction
based on sexual desire…
For
many it’s okay if he or she is a great catch and they think in time they will
fall in love with this person. They are healthy, they have a great job, and
they can supply all their needs. They also have a nice car and a nice house
too! What more can they ask for?
If
that’s you, what you feel is what’s called conditional love. This is not love at
all. This type of conditional love survives only if certain conditions are met
and if they’re not met, it’s all OVER!
Think
about Paul's prayer for you: "...be rooted deep in love and founded securely on
love, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all
the saints...what is the breadth and length and height and depth (of it); (That
you may really come) to know...through experience for yourselves – the love of
Christ which far surpasses mere knowledge (without experience)..." (Ephesians
3:17-19, AMP).
You
see, what God wants to develop in you and your partner is His unconditional love
for one another. A pure and true love that no matter what you have or how much
you have nothing can destroy your love for each other, no matter what you
will still love one other, comfort each
other, honor and keep each other, in sickness and in health, for richer, for
poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually
bestow upon each of your heart’s deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keeping
yourself only unto each other as long as you both shall live.
This life time
commitment is a covenant before God. A covenant that God does not take lightly
and we should not take this covenant made before Him lightly either.
The
choice of a lifelong companion is the second most important decision of your
life...yes, God will let you have your way, but He has the one best suited for
you already in mind. Ask Him tonight to guide your decision...and see what
direction He takes you.
The
most important decision you will make in your life is accepting Jesus Christ as
your personal Savior. God showed us His unconditional love for each one of us
over 2000 years ago when He gave His son to die in our place so we can have
eternal life…
Prayer: Father in Heaven. Thank you so much for your love for us. Please
bless our relationship Lord. Lead and guide us in the way you would have us to
go. We surrender our relationship to you Father and ask that you help us along
life’s journey. Give us unconditional love, strength and wisdom each day as we
honor our vows before you, in Jesus name, Amen.
