Dr. Tite Tiénou to Lead
Christian International
Scholarship Foundation

– Dr. Tite
Tiénou,
well-known academic and
global church leader has
been elected Chairman of
the Board of Directors
of the Christian
International
Scholarship Foundation (CISF).
CISF supports prominent
Christian leaders from
the Majority World to
attain advanced
theological education at
seminaries in the United
States and around the
world.
“I am excited and
privileged to accept
this challenge,” said
Dr.Tiénou. “This new
responsibility aligns
closely with my concern
for the development and
maturity of the global
church, that it might be
both faithful to the
gospel and rooted in the
local culture, whatever
the context. Our
scholars are widely
recognized for leading
the way both in global
theological education as
well as serving as
opinion and thought
leaders in their home
countries, not only in
the church but in
society as a whole. They
are playing key roles in
church leadership so
desperately needed in
these regions.”
Dr.
Tiénou
is particularly renowned
for his leadership of
Christian initiatives in
Africa that have
resulted in significant
and long-term benefit to
the Christian church on
that continent.
Dr.
Tiénou is currently Dean
of Trinity Evangelical
Divinity School in
Deerfield, Illinois
where he has served
since 1997.
Prior to coming to
Trinity, Dr. Tiénou
served as president and
dean of the Faculté de
Théologie Evangélique de
l'Alliance in Abidjan,
Côte 'Ivoire West
Africa, and taught for
nine years at Alliance
Theological Seminary in
Nyack, New York. He was
the founding director
and professor at the
Maranatha Institute in
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina
Faso, in addition to
being a pastor in the
Central Church of the
Christian Alliance
Church.
Dr. Tiénou earned the
Doctor of Philosophy in
intercultural studies
and the Master of Arts
in missiology at Fuller
Theological Seminary in
Pasadena, California. He
earned the Maîtrise en
Théologie at Faculté
Libre de Théologie
Evangélique in Vaux-sur-Seine,
France, and the Bachelor
of Science in theology
at Nyack College in New
York where he graduated
cum laude. He and his
wife, Marie have four
grown children and
reside in Gurnee, IL

CISF supports proven
Christian leaders from
Africa, Asia, Latin
America, Eastern Europe
and the Middle East
primarily at the
doctoral level. These
scholars attend
seminaries such as
Trinity Evangelical
Divinity School,
Deerfield, Ill.; Fuller
Seminary, Pasadena,
Calif.; Regent College,
Vancouver, B.C.; and
several institutions in
the United Kingdom,
Africa, Hong Kong and
South America. More
than 150 graduates have
been supported and
returned to bring
significant leadership
to the church in their
home countries.
CISF supported graduates
include leaders who have
initiated the founding
of new seminaries;
reconciliation efforts
between Jews,
Christians, and Moslems
in the Middle East;
relief efforts after the
bombing of U.S.
embassies in Africa;
movements to protect
African women from abuse
such as female
circumcision; and
leading the church in
its response to
religious violence and
the AIDS crisis in
Africa.
