Arena erupts in worship as 22nd Hillsong Conference closes

Christians from across the nations united in a powerful praise and worship celebration tonight, drawing Hillsong’s 22nd annual conference to a close.

Pastor and songwriter Michael Guglielmucci led a stirring rendition of his song Healer, sharing the moving story of his personal battle with cancer.

More than 24,000 delegates have experienced a musical feast over the five days of the conference with highlights from Darlene Zschech, Israel Houghton and internationally-acclaimed artist Michael Gungor. Leeland, a fresh voice in the Christian music industry, brought a new generation of worship, characterised by moving and passionate lyrics.

This year’s conference has featured some of the world’s most sought-after Christian speakers, including renowned teacher and evangelist Joyce Meyer, pastors Judah Smith from Generations Church in Seattle and Joseph Prince from New Creation Church in Singapore.

Social justice, community action and a call for unity within the Church have been the key themes for this year’s conference, which has drawn delegates from 21 denominations and 70 countries.

Hillsong Church’s Senior Pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston said it was an honour to serve the local church by hosting the conference, and a privilege they would never take for granted.

They unveiled plans for a fresh format at Hillsong Conference 2009, which will place even greater emphasis on practical teaching in streams covering justice, leadership and worship. A single evening session will promote greater intimacy with God and closer community with each other.

Joel and Victoria Osteen, Senior Pastors of Lakewood Church, the largest and fastest growing church in the USA, have already been confirmed as key speakers. They will share the stage with Louie Giglio, Jentezen Franklin, Chris Tomlin and Martin Smith.

GOD TV has aired the conference this week, reaching nearly half a billion homes around the world. Hillsong Conference will also take place in London from 8 - 11 October and Kiev, Ukraine from 1 - 3 October.
